Murphy’s Law Meets Your Insurance Policy: General Insurance Claims
If something can go wrong, it will – usually right after you decided to increase your excess to save a few dollars.
The Usual Suspects:
- House and Contents – Fire, floods, burglary, or your toddler’s attempt at “modern art” on the carpet. 
- Business – Theft, liability claims, or that one employee who thought the company van could double as a speedboat. 
- Vehicle – Fender benders, car theft, or rogue shopping trolleys causing suspicious dents. 
Pro Tips for a Smooth Claim:
- Document everything – Photos, receipts, and proof you actually owned the diamond earrings now “missing.” 
- Be honest – If you “accidentally” reversed into your own letterbox, just say so. Insurers have heard it all before. 
- Know your policy – Not all disasters are covered. That includes your mate Dave borrowing your car and returning it with a new, unplanned sunroof. 
Insurance is there to help, but a little preparation goes a long way. Otherwise, you might find yourself explaining to your insurer why your pet alpaca isn’t included under “accidental damage.”
